On March 21, 2008 approximately 150 construction workers, architects, students, staff, faculty and dignitaries gathered to raise one of the final beams for the Student Union. The event started on Wednesday the 19th with many students, staff and faculty coming to sign the ceremonial beam.

During the ceremony the beam was lifted into place with a ceremonial evergreen placed on top. The evergreen will later become part of the landscape around the Student Union.
