Campus Initiatives

49er New Year: The new academic year is kicked off at 49er New Year as the Chancellor, Vice Chancellor for Student Affairs and Student Government Association President welcome new and returning students back to UNC Charlotte and share the many ways to be engaged in the Niner Nation community.

Gold Rush: Coordinated by the Dean of Students Office, Gold Rush, formerly known as the Week Of Welcome, is a full week of activities to get your year off to a fabulous start and includes traditions such as the Block Party, 49er New Year, the Yard Show and the annual CAB opening comedy show.

International Festival: UNC Charlotte’s longest running tradition, is coordinated by the Office of International Programs and held in the Fall in the Student Activity Center.  This event includes authentic international cuisines, music, dancing, sights, smells, native outfits, and more fun! It’s even more fun to be part of the festivities – give a couple hours volunteer time. You’ll be glad you did (and the free T-shirt and lots of “thank-yous” is nice too!)

Homecoming: Celebrate UNC Charlotte Niner Pride cheering on our football team, participating in or watching the parade of lights, shouting out at the pep rally and joining the celebration at the Homecoming Union Take Over.

Haunted Union: Experience the Student Union all decked out for Halloween.  From interactive activities to a haunted house, the Union is the place to be to celebrate this fun and spooky holiday.

49er Forum: Hear from the people at the top of their field talk about how they made it to where they are and about the things that make them passionate. This speakers series highlights leaders whose stories you will want to hear.

Union Take Overs: Every month the Union is turned into a multi-level center of student activity. From music to massages, magicians to bingo, and everything in between, there is something for everyone at the Union Take Overs.
